《Once Was a Time》透過一段穿越時空的真摯友誼，講述關於勇氣與信念的感人故事。

1940年的倫敦正飽受戰爭的摧殘，除了面臨食物短缺的窘境，為了避免德軍的空襲，到了夜晚城市中總是黑壓壓的一片。但是對於女主角洛蒂(Lottie)來說，只要有好朋友凱蒂(Kitty)的陪伴，這些令人沮喪的事物全都可以被遺忘，她們經常一同遊戲，或是全神貫注的聽著洛蒂的父親講解自己正在從事的神祕研究。

洛蒂的父親是一位知名的科學家，他堅信只要能夠打開存在於宇宙間的時空之門，就能夠輕易的在不同的時空間穿梭。洛蒂的父親經過多年的研究，在大戰如火如荼的進行時，終於找到了打開時空大門的方法。

然而，對於野心勃勃的軍事家們來說，找到時空大門不僅意味著令人振奮的時空旅行，更代表著贏得此次戰爭的先機。於是當德軍的將領得知這項研究之後，洛蒂與凱蒂利課程為了納粹的俘虜。在父親的秘密實驗室中，她們親眼見證了父親提出的理論，看著時空之門被緩緩的打開。急忙從納粹手掌心逃脫的洛蒂，在一陣紛亂之下，不小心闖進了穿越時空的大門，正當她轉頭望向被遺落在後頭的凱蒂時，時空大門已然關起。

一瞬間洛蒂來到了2013年的美國威斯康辛州小鎮。小鎮上的居民對於洛蒂這個擁有英國口音的神秘女孩感到好奇，而這個陌生的時空更是讓洛蒂驚奇連連，但是她仍舊心繫著另一個時空中，遭到納粹挾持的父親與凱蒂。在好心的圖書管理員的幫忙下，洛蒂翻閱了歷年的報紙與相關的資訊，找到了關於父親在多年前亡故的報導。但是洛蒂卻怎麼也找不著關於凱蒂的消息。正當洛蒂心急如焚時，一本泛黃的書頁中掉出了一張來自義大利的明信片，上頭的字跡與署名竟出自於她內心最掛念的人──凱蒂。

洛蒂相信即便人事已非，她與凱蒂之間的友誼仍舊不變。於是洛蒂憑藉著強烈的信念與手中的明信片，開始在這個陌生的時空中展開一場動人的尋人之旅。

Leila Sales出生成長於美國波士頓城郊，擁有芝加哥大學心理學學位，曾出版過包括《Mostly Good Girl》、《The Song Will Save Your Life》在內等多部深受喜愛的青少年小說。本書《Once Was a Time》是她第一部為小學生讀者所撰寫的兒童小說。
