HAZEL RILEY was born in Gateshead and discovered a passion for reading as a child. That's when she decided she was going to be a writer. She studied English Literature at York University. Becoming a Trotskyist, feminst, and a Buddhist in rapid succession. After university she moved to London, did a variety of jobs, and spent some time in Egypt, developing a love of all things Egyptian. She now lives in London with herdog and divides her time between teaching adult literacy and writing for children. Thanis is her first novel for Oxford University press.
