在社交網絡上擁有超人氣的著作《Firebrand》獲得網友評予五顆星的高評價。這本由新人作家Gillian Philip撰寫的科幻小說《Firebrand》，美國出版社Strident十分自信故事精彩吸引人，於是首當其衝將部份章節放在網上提供讀者免費試閱，贏得一片好評。《The Book Bag》形容這本小說精彩到實在不容錯過，更有可能會是得獎之作。《Our Book Reviews Online》和《Waterstones.com》也同時評價5顆星。

作者筆下的這個故事，創造了一個神奇的世界和族群，是由女王Kate NicNiven 統治的Sithe王國，國民都精於作戰，異常兇猛，速度比人類快速且敏捷。他們看似野蠻，卻有更多的率真與忠誠。他們住在樹森裡，透過一張神秘的帷幕，長期與人類世界隔絕。

故事主角是位十六歲少男Seth McGregor。他是部落領袖的Griogair的兒子，擁有一位同父異母的哥哥Conal。兩人平日感情十分要好，卻因一次的錯誤，Seth和他哥哥被流放到人類世界。

穿過通往人類世界的水閘，他們來到16世紀的英國蘇格蘭，正值宗教戰爭和獵殺巫師和女巫的瘋狂時期，為了避免引人注意，Conal盡可能低頭謙遜，但沒有多久，他還是引起別人的注意，並被人逮捕，準備用火燒死他。Seth必須想辦法救出哥哥。

與此同時，女王Kate正計劃破壞那個將他們與人類隔絕的帷幕，並任命Griogair負責此項任務，這個做法極為危險和不明確，因為不知道神秘的帷幕被打開後，會有什麼結果，就連女王身邊最重要和最有力量的顧問，也就是Seth的母親Lilith也無法預測，只能一旁極力勸阻女王不要這樣做。

Seth救出Conal後，獵殺巫師的運動已經遍及整個歐洲，當他們得知女王想毀滅帷幕時，他們決定要盡快趕回去保護帷幕。如果被人類發現了Sithe王國，一場殺戮之戰勢必在所難免。

《Rebel Angels》是三部曲的第一部。作者巧妙創造一個神秘又波濤暗湧的世界，並將故事放置在中世紀瘋狂獵巫的時代背景，刻畫出一個內部和外部的緊張衝突，這是小說最成功的地方。

 

Gillian Philip 是蘇格蘭作家，曾為雜誌《People’s Friend》和《Woman’s Weekly》定期撰寫短篇小說，深獲讀者的青睞。2001年開始，擔任全職作家，著有《Bad Faith》，又曾以筆名Gabriella Poole發表《Darke Academy》系列。
