已榮獲多項兒童書獎的英國小說家Sarah Singleton被英國《獨立報》喻是青少年小說界的重量級作家。

在小說《The Island》中，她以純熟筆觸寫出一個既充滿懸疑情節、主角性格獨特又教人難忘的朋友及初戀的故事。

故事描寫：在高中畢業等待進入大學的空檔期，Otto、Jen和Charlotte三位好朋友計劃到印度Goa海灘天堂渡假，並且各懷目的。Otto像個大孩子般，對一切充滿好奇心，卻有點自私。他為了想成為一名攝影師，於是決定提早兩周抵達Goa，將在當地拍攝的照片作為他將來申請學校或工作的資源；Charlotte也希望在當地搜集到相關的環境保護資料，讓她順利完成入學申請的環境報告；只有Jen一個人是單純想要擁有一個難忘的旅程。

Otto提早抵達Goa後，便認識了美麗女孩Maria，她的舉手投足深深吸引著Otto，於是他們一起參加派對、經常約會到處遊玩。但在一次約會途中，Maria突然失蹤了，Otto慌張尋遍所有地方，最後卻在淺灘上找到Maria的屍體。大量血液從Maria的頭顱傷口溢出，等到警方趕到現場調查後，探員Sharma懷疑Otto就是謀殺Maria的兇手。就在此時，Otto也離奇失蹤了。

Sarah Singleton 出生於英國北安普敦郡，曾到歐洲、印度和尼泊爾旅行。在成為記者之前，她從事過不同的工作，例如照顧馬匹、巧克力工廠控制員和飯店女服務生等。2005年，以《Century》一書榮獲「Booktrust Teenage Prize」；《Sacrifice》一書入圍卡內基文學獎；《The Amethyst Child》一書獲選入圍2008年曼徹斯特圖書獎（Manchester Book Award）。她的其他小說作品還有《Out of the Shadows》和《The Poison Garden》等。
