Leading wildlife illustrator, Ned Barraud, combining a cozy puppy narrative with fascinating science and history

Did you know that every dog has an ancestor that was a wolf?

When you see that little puppy of your sleeping in front of the hearth, it may be dreaming of its ancestors – racing through snowy forests with a wolf pack, hunting prey.

Ned Barraud shows us ancient dogs journeying alongside Ice Age hunters and tells how some wolves slowly evolved into the dogs we know and love today.

From mighty sled dogs and loyal guardians to tiny lapdogs and playful companions, every dog shares a remarkable story that began thousands of years ago in the wild.

 

Ned Barraud studied art in Otago and illustration at Victoria University and has since authored and illustrated a number of children’s books and journals including the ‘Explore and Discover’ series about different ecosystems in New Zealand. He loves to help introduce children to the natural world around them and encourages them to explore it. His first book with Scholastic was Katie Furze’s Tuatara, a Living Treasure, a finalist in the non-fiction section of the New Zealand Children’s Book Awards, and which now developed into a series of other Aotearoa NZ animals and birds, ruru, pekapeka and kekeno. Ned lives in Nelson.
