★Named a “Recommended Reading for Primary and Secondary School Students” by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture
This book uses simple dialogue filled with knowledge to introduce children to the pangolin species and raise their conservation awareness.
Mum has gone out, leaving little pangolin alone at home. But this is not a problem, as it has grown stronger and taller! But... why has mum been gone for so long? Is she in danger? What does the world outside this burrow look like?
The book uses daily conversation between a child and their mother to explore pangolins’ characteristics: What do they eat daily? How much do they eat? How much do they weigh? How long are they? How tall? How does the color of their scales change? How big and how deep is their burrow? By asking these questions, children can learn about pangolins by discovering the secrets and habitat of pangolins by following the little mouse detective’s journey into little pangolin’s burrow.
Empathy is the cornerstone of a child's moral and mental development. This picture book aims to overview the pangolin's world from little pangolin’s perspective. Adults will also enjoy reading with children through discussion on each character’s feelings by prompting the following questions: What are little pangolin's feelings while waiting for mum to return? How might you feel while waiting for mum to come home?
Pangolins were once Taiwan’s endangered species, and after many years of collective effort, Taiwan has become one of the most successful places worldwide in pangolin conservation. However, because pangolins live in hard-to-observe burrows, we, therefore, know very little about them. This author uses illustration to transcribe extensive research data into pictures that offer glimpses into pangolins’ mysterious lives.
The book also includes the gift of a supplementary handbook. This handbook is a mini encyclopaedia filled with fun facts and photos of pangolins. It makes the learning experiences more interactive and fun while allowing readers to develop an in-depth understanding of these precious animals living in our surrounding forests.
