《歐洲畫框的歷史》（書名譯自：《A History of European Picture Frames》）一書自1996年出版至今，不斷再刷，是一本藝術設計史的長銷書。

每幅畫作收放在不同的框架內，必有其理。許多愛畫賞畫的名家或許專注於畫作，而忽略了保護這福畫的「框」可是大有學問。一個框的適合與否，攸關於為畫加分或是扣分。

這本書是知名「框架文史」的歷史學家和顧問Paul Mitchell和Lynn Roberts這二十年來的創作作品中，最為出色的一本。他們針對歐洲和北美最主流的博物館和歷史收藏館，進行畫框的文史研究，包括有框的材質、研究、雕刻和紋路等等，提供了詳細的考古文獻。

書中根據文史收錄有38個經典畫框之作，增添其閱讀豐富性。

 

Paul Mitchell read Architecture and Fine Arts at Cambridge and European Art Hisotry at the Courtauld Institute, London. A frame historian and consultant of international reputation, he has published articles on European frames in specialist periodicals and exhibition catalogues, including Wright of Derby (Tate Gallery, 1990), and a guide to frames in the catalogue of the Thyssen Collection (1989).

Lynn Robets is a frame historian and rece3ived an MPhil from the Courtauld Institute for her pioneering study Victorian Picture Frames 1850-1890. She has written articles on nineteenth century frames and has contributed to the exhibition catalogues In Perfect Harmony: Picture + Frame 1850-1920 (Van Gogh Museum, 1995) and Victorian Paintings (National Gallery of Art, Washington, 1997)
