Phillip Hills is the founder of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, through which he led the revolution in public understanding of malt whisky and created the market for specially bottled fine malts which all whisky companies now supply, He is the director of The Malt Masterclass, a company specialising in corporate tastings and classes. He is also the first (and only) holder since 1791 of a private licence to distill whisky, which he does for demonstration purposes using a copper pot-still.
