本書作者是位蒙特克萊爾州立大學的榮譽數位教授，曾教授數百名小學生數學，深切明白死記硬背的學習和標準化測驗，只會減弱孩子的學習興趣，尤其是注重邏輯思考的數學，因此，她為家長提供一套有效的數學學習補充法，指導父母如何協助孩子學習數學。
