After her last success, Carrie Gibson turns her talent for unpicking complex history and tracing its resonances through to the modern day to the topic of Mexico-US relations.

With EL NORTE, Gibson will explore the complex and shifting boundary between the US and Mexico by examining the Spanish colonial past in North America in order to make sense of the Hispanic present, on both sides of the border and see how the legacy of Span’s empire cast its shadow over identity in the US.

Carrie Gibson took a PhD at Cambridge Univesity, focusing on the Spanish Caribbean during the Haitian Revolution. She has worked as journalist for the Guardian and has carried out research in archives across the Caribbean. She lives in London.
