Ernst Peter Fischer, born in 1947, studied mathematics and physics in Cologne and biology at the California institute of Technology in Pasadena. He received a professorial scholarship in the area of history of science. Today he is a history of science professor at the University of Cologne. He is the author of numerous bestselling books, receiving for his work many awards, including the Sartorius Prize of the Academy of Sciences, Gottingen.
