地圖上不再是地方的地方！

暢銷書《Sixty Degrees North》作家Malachy Tallack這次在新書《The Un-Discovered Islands》裡，為我們列表那些沒有被發現的島嶼的神話、謊言與錯誤，同時，繪製出我們始終相信它是存在的、卻在地圖上消失的島嶼。

書裡敘述24個已發現、後來又「沒發現」的傳說島嶼，它們的故事如同本書知名插畫家Katie Scott的插圖一樣，精緻、複雜：從古亞特蘭提斯到現代GPS的顯示、從南伊拉克的Hufaidh的棕櫚樹和石榴樹到世界北端國家圖勒（Thule，極北之地）冰凍的霧。

作者飽覽大量歷史文獻，探索地圖上那些之前存在的小島和模糊不清的半島已經凋落，敘述它們從一開始的存在到最後變成虛構神話的真相，如紐西蘭原住民毛利人（Maori）在十八世紀最早與歐洲對話時，稱紐西蘭不是他們的原生地，事實上，毛利人的祖先來自於夏威夷最北地平線的一個島嶼，但因毛利人對於島嶼名字世代流傳的不完整或可能有誤，至今沒有發現該島嶼。

本書集結歷史、地理、文化的深度考究，結論地圖上沒有發現的島嶼，卻一度被認為存在的誤會，肇因於我們的想像、欺騙或是簡單的錯誤。作者運用瑰麗文字和流暢敘文，為我們彙整與解讀那些沒發現的地方的傳說與懷疑，是一部穿插地理人文故事的地圖集。

Malachy Tallack is the author of Sixty Degrees North, published in the UK by Polygon and in North America by Pegasus. The book gained an excellent critical response, was broadcast as a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week and named Guardian Book of the Week. Born and raised in Shetland, Malachy has written widely for the New Statesman, the Guardian, the Scottish Review of Books and many other publications, online and in print. He won a New Writers Award from the Scottish Book Trust in 2014 and the Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship in 2015.

Katie Scott is a London-based illustrator whose clients include the New York Times, Kew Gardens and the BBC. Her album artwork for Bombay Bicycle Club was nominated for Best Album Artwork at the 2012 NME Awards. She is the illustrator of Animalium (2014), Evolution (2015) and the forthcoming Botanicum (2016), all published by Big Picture Press.
