現今有眾多探討第一次世界大戰的文獻，都聚焦於西線戰場的壕溝戰。當然，西線是關鍵戰場，然而這場大戰是一場全球性的衝突，乃是不容忽視的事實與視角。歷史學家Keith Jeffery在新書《1916: A Global History》裡，藉由審視1916年當中橫跨多個大陸的一系列事件，將關注焦點從傳統歷史敘事的西線，轉移到在全球範圍裡擴散的連串衝突，為這場規模浩大的戰爭帶來重要的全新理解。

《1916: A Global History》生動細膩地融入大戰時各國平民，包括參戰者與受害者的故事。本書補足了一戰文獻的重要缺塊，作者創意非凡的取徑，挖掘被埋沒事件的熱情，以及人本精神的動人描繪，在在說明這是一位歷史學家臻至顛峰之作。

Keith Jeffery，貝爾法斯特女王大學英國史教授，愛爾蘭皇家科學院（Royal Irish Academy）成員。1998年，他在劍橋大學三一學院擔任軍事科學Lees Knowles講師；2003至2004年獲獎赴劍橋大學莫德林學院愛爾蘭研究系研究。已有十四本著作，其中包括《MI6: The History of the Secret Intelligence Service 1909-1949》。現居北愛爾蘭。
