這本書是大屠殺研究所（Holocaust Research Institute）所長暨現代史教授Dan Stone對於20世紀這個舉足輕重的歷史事件進行細緻且敏銳的新敘述。

Dan Stone，是倫敦大學皇家哈洛威學院（Royal Holloway）近代史教授暨大屠殺研究所（Holocaust Research Institute）所長。他是作者、多本學術期刊和教科書編輯，包括《Histories of the Holocaust》、《The Liberation of the Camps》、《Concentration Camps》、《Fascism, Nazism and the Holocaust》和《Fate Unknown》。這是他的第一本為大眾讀者撰寫的著作。
