★Alexander Chee、Malaka Gharib

“What a pleasure to be invited into this search—for the queer self, for companions, solidarity, even paradise—and to spend it in the lambert glow of Kaitlin Chan’s honest vulnerability, which in turns invited the same from me. This prismatic vision of her life—past, present, future—drew one from within me also, and this is the greatest gift an artist can offer, I think. A singular, iconoclastic debut.” —Alexander Chee, author of How to Write an Autobiographical Novel

“Kaitlin Chan’s Homecoming is a tender, funny, and at times heartbreaking meditation on what it means to find yourself in other people. In the book, Chan sets out to document the stories of queer people—how they live, love, and navigate relationships—in Taiwan, a part of the world that has only just begun to embrace LGBTQ rights. Chan then weaves in stories of her own struggles as an artist, adult, and queer person. With every encounter in Taiwan’s queer community, told through poignant scenes and illustration, Chan gains strength and wisdom—inspiring a new view on herself and the world.”—Malaka Gharib, author of I Was Their American Dream and It Won’t Always Be Like This

“Kaitlin Chan’s Homecoming offers us stories within stories, tenderly and beautifully rendered in textured black, white, and red. Chan captures the intimacy of conversations between friends and acquaintances—so expertly that we are transported to that park bench, kitchen table, or quiet bedroom where these gentle and insightful conversations are happening. This book is often melancholic, often funny, and always interesting. Homecoming is a gift.”—Lee Lai, author of Stone Fruit

“Homecoming felt like a long walk home with someone you love in the best weather for an outfit you were really excited to wear. It weaves ordinary stories with queer history and cross-country legacies of belonging—proving you don't have to be extraordinary, don’t have to be a hero or know exactly who you are, to be deserving of love, of community, of care. As a queer Taiwanese person, reading this felt like love.”—Arabelle Sicardi, author of Queer Heroes
