Per Mertesacker was born in Hanover in 1984. After stations in the Bundesliga at Hannover 96 and Werder Bremen, the central defender moved to FC Arsenal in 2011, where he has been playing as defence boss ever since. He became World Champion in 2014 with the German national team.
