The new thriller novel from Po-Jung Hua, the original screenwriter of the film The Gangster's Daughter and the winner of three major literary awards.
Ming-Ren said there is an elephant in our marriage; we live underneath it as if it’s our home, and we birthed two children. The elephant keeps inflating like a balloon; he endures all the pain from being suppressed. He can no longer pretend to be a father or a husband. From here onward, he just wants to be single.
One night, Ming-Ren was in a messy state, covered with injuries as he returned home. A month later, the police charged him with murder as he had been suspected of killing an investigator hired by me to look into the truth behind our divorce. Ming-Ren initially refused my visits to the detention center, but suddenly, he asked for my help. He wants me and our son to find an item in our home, but what is this item? Why did Ming-Ren suddenly change and beg for my help to search for this item? The following day, the shocking news of Ming-Ren’s suicide arrives at our home from the prison.
After years of absence, Hua’s career spans screenwriting, advertisement, and literature. At the same time, he has also won three major literary awards returns with his gripping, suspenseful thriller “The Woman Washes the Elephant.” The story follows a female protagonist facing a plight by exploring the dark voids within her marriage and family. With a light and relatable touch, the narrative starts ordinary but takes sharp, dangerous turns that transform an ordinary family into the center of attention in a murder investigation. As questions, investigations, and secrets are unfolding, the bizarre truth rooted in the purest human desires and needs alas reveals itself.
A thought-provoking, engaging narrative with the mystery core as the main story plot keeps you on the hook until the very end, where revelations of the ending lead you towards a deeper reflection of life.
