In 1931 Germany, Max Beissinger, the owner of a bookshop, and Hanna Ginsberg, a budding concert violinist, meet and fall in love. Their story unfolds over the next five years, when everything is changing in Germany, Hitler is coming to power in their country, and their love is faced with many obstacles, not the least of which is that Hanna is Jewish and Max is not. But Max also has a secret, causing him to leave Hanna for months at a time, and causing Max to believe he will be able to save Hanna if things get too dangerous for them in Germany. In 1946 Hanna Ginsberg wakes up in a field outside of Berlin, with no memory of the past ten years and no idea what happened to Max or whether or not he is still alive. As she moves to London to live with her sister, she starts to rebuild her life and tries to become the concert violinist she always dreamed she would be. But even as the years pass, and life, and her violin, take her from London to Paris to Vienna to America, she continues to be haunted by her forgotten past, and the fate of the man she loved. Unfolding in alternating stories, IN ANOTHER TIME is a novel about love and survival, passion and music, across time and continents.

Jillian Cantor is the author of award-winning novels including, most recently, the critically acclaimed The Hours Count and Margot. She is also the author of The Lost Letter.
