A suspenseful family saga set against the backdrop of Belle Epoque Paris, the Impressionist movement, and a labyrinth of secrets…

GIRL IN THE AFTERNOON is a suspenseful family drama and love story set in the world of the daring Impressionist art movement. Born into a wealthy Parisian family of art collectors, 18-year-old Aimée Savaray is passionate about drawing and painting, and she dreams of creating figures as vibrant and luscious as those in Monsieur Manet’s racy new paintings, which have recently scandalized the city and the stuffy art establishment.

Everyone in Aimée’s family harbors secrets and desires, especially her parents, whose turbulent marriage thrives on wild emotions, and her adopted brother, Henri, a burgeoning artist, who disappears early one morning. 18-year-old Aimée Savaray sets out to find him. But Henri doesn’t want to be found and only one member of the family knows why. As Aimée seeks refuge in the art world, mentored by Manet, she unwittingly finds her way back to Henri, while being under Manet’s mentorship becomes a journey of sensual self-discovery that will change her life.

As Aimée and Henri are drawn together in the close knit circles of the Parisian art world, will they rekindle their close connection, or will jealousy and rivalry and the burden of family secrets keep them from fulfilling their dreams of great art and even greater romance?

Serena Burdick’s enticing debut novel appeals to readers who love the historical novels of Susan Vreeland and Tracy Chevalier filled with art and history. Serena studied creative writing and literature, as well as theater, and has been an actress and model.
