能導能演的詹姆斯法蘭柯（James Franco）在2011年就計畫拍攝改編自小說《Zeroville》的同名電影，並在準備開拍時，剃個大光頭，動用圈內好人緣網羅賽斯羅根（Seth Rogen）、賈姬薇佛（Jacki Weaver，《派特的幸福劇本》）、梅根福克斯（Megan Fox）、威爾法洛（Will Ferrell）等多位大牌影星連袂演出。電影預計在今年底全美上映。

《Zeroville》故事描述在1969年8月某天，一個瘋狂嬉皮的家族犯下洛杉磯峽谷的五樁殘酷命案。一名將伊麗莎白泰勒（Elizabeth Taylor）與蒙哥馬力克里夫（Montgomery Clift）的電影【郎心如鐵】（A Place in the Sun）圖案刺青在自己的光頭上的年輕學生Vikar Jerome也在這天出現了。

Vikar Jerome十分狂愛電影，於是來到好萊塢，夢想進入電影圈。由於當時主流電影已經沒落，獨立電影蓬勃新生，這也令他捲入毫無頭緒的離奇事件。他晚上睡在羅斯福飯店時，被美國導演D.W.格里菲斯的鬼魂攪得不安寧，掉進一種魔幻怪誕的混亂：一個令他恐懼的怪藥、一股消耗他精力的莫名性慾、一種他沒聽過的陌生音樂。他寄情自己所愛的電影，從一部電影換到下一部，從小女明星、竊賊、游擊戰、護衛隊、年輕龐克到電影編輯老手，只為了發現一個秘密，而線索就藏在拍製的每部電影裡。他苦苦追尋一場繁華的好萊塢之夢，最終是以喜劇或是悲劇收場呢？

小說靈巧運用驚悚鋪陳，在實境與虛幻的戲幕之間純熟轉變。作者的表現張力相當緊湊，就像是一部動作片。

 

Steve Erickson is the author of nine novels including 2012's THESE DREAMS OF YOU and two nonfiction works. His books have appeared on best-of-the-year lists in Newsweek, the Washington Post BookWorld, the Los Angeles Times, the Village Voice and the New York Times Book Review. He is the editor of the literary journal Black Clock, published by the California Institute of the Arts, and he teaches writing at the University of California Riverside; he also writes about film for Los Angeles magazine. He has received the American Academy of Arts and Letters' award in literature, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the Lannan Lifetime Achievement Award.
